Baba Ramdev to challenge
HC verdict on homosexuals
New
Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev will approach the Supreme
Court on Wednesday challenging the Delhi High Court
judgement legalising gay sex among the consenting
adults.
The petition is likely to be filed on Wednesday,
July 8, lawyers associated with Ramdev said.

Firework factory fire
kills 17 in India
CHENNAI,
India — Indian police were investigating Wednesday
a fire in a fireworks factory that killed at least
17 people in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
At least 21 others were injured when the fire broke
out Tuesday evening in a suburb of Madurai, 500
kilometres (310 miles) from the state capital Chennai.

Andhra engineer shot
dead in South Africa
Hyderabad: A software engineer
from Andhra Pradesh has been shot dead by unidentified
assailants in South Africa, his family members
said on Tuesday.
B Kiran, 28, who was injured in the attack on
Thursday, died at a hospital in Johannesburg early
Tuesday. His family members in Andhra Pradesh's
Warangal district said a doctor hailing from the
state told them over telephone that Kiran succumbed
to the bullet injuries.

Toll hits 156 in
China's Xinjiang as unrest spreads
Urumqi: Chinese Police have
arrested more than 1,400 suspects in connection
with rioting in the capital of Muslim Xinjiang
region which left 156 people dead and more than
800 injured, state media said on Tuesday.
Calm had settled over Urumqi, the region's capital,
after 20,000 police, troops and firefighters reclaimed
the streets from rioters who burnt and smashed
vehicles and shops and clashed with security forces
over Sunday night.
