NEW DELHI: Home minister
P Chidambaram on Tuesday said he had raised the issue of fake
Indian currency being smuggled out of Nepal with the
country's PM on a recent visit and the matter will be further
pursued at official levels. "I did mention the problem
of fake currency to him (Nepal PM). He shared our concern.
This will be followed by home secretary level talks,"
Chidamabaram said.
When specifically asked about ex-Nepal crown
prince Paras's alleged involvement in the racket, he said
he did not want to comment on it as he had only read about
it in the media.
The home secretaries of the two countries are
expected to meet on November 6-7 at Kathamandu. The minister
said that though the notes were being routed through Nepal,
they were being printed elsewhere.
Chidamabarm had called on Nepal PM Madhav
Nepal on August 20 and also met the country's home minister
en route to Bhutan. Regarding insurgency groups using Bhutan's
territory to set up training camps, the home minister said
there was some evidence to suggest that terrorist groups like
Ulfa were active in the area.
